The College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) of the Caraga State University through its “Caraga Center for Remote Sensing and GIS” has started the implementation of the 3-year Phil-LiDAR 1.2.14 project on flood hazard mapping of Caraga Region using LiDAR technology last April 1, 2014.
The Phil-LiDAR 1.2.14 project, also called “LiDAR Data Processing and Validation in Mindanao: Caraga Region”, is one of several projects under the “Phil-LiDAR-1. Hazard Mapping of the Philippines using LiDAR” program funded by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development – Department of Science and Technology (PCIEERD-DOST). Projects under this program are being implemented nationwide by several state universities and colleges (SUCs) and higher education institutions (HEIs). An extension of the UP DREAM program, Phil-LIDAR 1′s purpose is for SUCs/HEIs to undertake researches on the utilization of LiDAR technology to generate flood hazard maps of their assigned project areas. Phil-LiDAR 1.2.14 in particular will generate flood hazard maps of the river basins and watershed of Caraga Region (except the Agusan River Basin which has been covered by the UP DREAM program).
